ABOUT
The Blackheath Rhododendron Festival has something for everyone – a street fair, music, art, theatre, dance, fun and games, and so much more.
Held every year since 1953, the Festival began as a means of raising money to build Blackheath’s community hall which, in time, was built, fitted out and furnished. Funds raised in later years were used on a number of projects around town, including the canteen at the oval and rotundas in Sutton Park. The Festival’s fundraising efforts continue to benefit the Rural Fire Service brigade, RSL, sporting and youth clubs, the swimming pool, schools, streetscape and other organisations – but mostly, it’s fun!
Rhodo Festival, as it’s affectionately known, is an annual celebration held in Blackheath town centre during October and November to coincide with the peak flowering season of Blackheath’s signature rhododendrons.
Rhodo Day, on the first Saturday in November, is peak party time with entertainment, rides and stalls. The pubs host wood chopping, coal shovelling and roof bolting competitions. And hundreds line Wentworth Street to see the grand parade from 11.30am.
We invite you to explore the events on our new website – from the art show to jazz at the pub – and look forward to seeing you at this year’s Rhodo festival!
